Welcome to the Shawano Medical Center Construction Blog

At Shawano Medical Center, we are starting the new year with a new way to keep in touch. We’ll be writing weekly blog posts that will be published by the Shawano Leader so our friends and neighbors can track the progress of the construction of our community’s new ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano. A lot is already happening at the site at the intersection of County B and Highway 22, adjacent to ThedaCare Physicians–Shawano.
But it’s not just the bricks and pipes and wires that will shape this beautiful, new, efficient and warm space. Part of our goal is to talk about what we’ll all experience when we visit our new hospital as patients, family members, volunteers, doctors or employees. Much of our curiosity likely centers around the way we’ll experience personal care, light, colors, modernized conveniences, and easily navigable spaces. Some of us will reminisce about the old brick hospital where we had our babies or sat at a loved one’s bedside.
Most importantly, our short articles will connect those feelings, from old to new, from tradition through transition, so we all feel warmly welcomed in our community’s new medical center. We invite questions and inquiries as we relate construction and design updates, economic impact news, updates on temporary department relocations, witty stories, and photos galore. Our authors will include (but may not be limited to) me, Dorothy Erdmann, president of SMC; Carol Ryczek of community relations at TCMC–Shawano; Linda Gilbert, manager of the Shawano Medical Center Foundation; and Matt Peterson, Boldt construction project manager.
