Riverside Medical Center Hosts Event to Inspire Healthy Habits

Riverside Medical Center invites women from around the community to attend a special “Go Red For Women” evening, planned for 6:30 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 23 at RMC’s Maasch Education Center.

In honor of February’s Heart Month and the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement, the fun-filled event will feature inspirational presentations, interactive mini sessions and delicious heart-healthy refreshments with the goal of raising awareness about the No. 1 killer of women. The event is free but seating is limited and registration is required. To register, call (715) 258-1119.

“Women are so good at taking care of everyone else, yet they typically don’t take care of themselves,” said Marci Reynolds, RMC’s manager of health and wellness. “We hope to inspire and empower women to take action toward more heart-healthy lifestyles. It’s going to be a fun evening and we invite everyone to wear red.”

Featured speakers will include a local woman, who will share her personal story about heart disease, and Kay Anderson of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, who will lead a presentation entitled “Heart to Heart: Keys to Financial and Physical Health.”

“It’s amazing how interconnected the two issues really are,” said Anderson, a financial associate with Thrivent. “It will be a light-hearted and interactive approach to a heavy topic.”

More women die of cardiovascular disease than from the next four causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer, according to the AHA. But 80 percent of cardiac events in women could be prevented if women made the right choices for their hearts involving diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking.
