Remembering Through Sharing Plans Family Celebration on May 6

When parents lose a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn birth, they may feel alone and lost at how to remember their child. A May 6 event will provide families with an opportunity to celebrate their child’s memory.

ThedaCare’s Remembering Through Sharing Pregnancy Loss Program is sponsoring a special spring event from 1- 2:30 p.m. at The Gardens of the Fox Cities inside Appleton’s Memorial Park. Families will build and decorate a kite in their child’s honor and participate in other activities with families facing the same challenges.

Joan Heller, the Remembering Through Sharing coordinator, said the event grew from the group’s popular annual Walk to Remember and Annual Candlelight Memorial Service. “The families find comfort getting together with others who have experienced the death of a baby. It’s a time to connect with new families and catch up with the people who have supported them through their journey,” she said.

Families are invited to bring mementos, such picture items, baby books or other items celebrating their child’s life, to display in memory of their child.

“This event is designed to be an uplifting time to come together and remember these precious children,” Heller said. “With the great spring weather we’ve been having, The Gardens will be a wonderful background to celebrate these babies’ lives.”
