Success at Sturgeon Shuffle

Annual Event Raises Money for New London Family Medical Center

More than 500 people, including students of the Longfellow Running Club in Clintonville, participated in the Wolf River Sturgeon Shuffle and raised over $20,000. “We were thrilled with the turnout of this year’s event, it was the largest and most successful run we have had yet,” said Heather Grimes, executive director of the Wolf River Area Healthcare Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports New London Family Medical Center and the communities it serves.

This is the third year of the event. “Funds raised go directly to ensuring the New London Family Medical Center campus has state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and education to serve the healthcare needs of our community as well as support outreach programs that focus on local health and wellness efforts,” said Grimes.

Participants in the spring event, a competitive 5 mile and 2 mile road run/walk for all athletes, enjoy the route along the Sturgeon Trail, where, if the time is right, like it was this year racers can catch a glimpse of the famous sturgeon doing their own run.

In the past, funds have been targeted for community programs for youth involvement, like the safe sitter classes, bike safety clinics and Clintonville Middle School’s You Grow Girl program, a self-esteem and wellness program designed to empower adolescent girls.

The Wolf River Area Healthcare Foundation was founded in 2003. Its mission is to seek and secure financial resources that ensure New London Family Medical Center has state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, education and outreach. New London Family Medical Center and The Wolf River Area Healthcare Foundation serve Waupaca, Outagamie and surrounding counties.
