Variety of Class Dates Available in New London, Surrounding Communities
Through a grant provided by The Wolf River Area Healthcare Foundation, the Safe Sitter Program is once again available, equipping young people with the skills needed to be safe and responsible babysitters.
“The Foundation is thrilled to be able to once again offer this educational program at New London Family Medical Center,” said Deborah Johnson, Executive Director, Wolf River Area Healthcare Foundation.
The class is offered to boys and girls, ages 11-13. During a one-day, 8 hour class, they will learn injury prevention and treatment, CPR, management of problem behavior and the business side of babysitting. Participants will receive the course manual and a shoulder sling containing a flash light and first-aid kit.
“This program is so worthwhile and has been missed,” said Peggy Zillmer, Program Coordinator and Certified Safe Sitter Instructor. “I am looking forward to educating these kids on how to be exceptional Safe Sitters.”
Zillmer said the program is a benefit to the community. “Parents can rest assured that there are qualified, responsible boys and girls they can call to provide care for their children when they are at work or need some time to themselves,” she said.
Classes are also offered in Clintonville and Manawa. “We feel it’s important to offer this education to the young people in our entire service area,” said Johnson.
The registration fee is $25.00 and includes all course materials as well as a shoulder sling. Students are asked to bring a brown bag lunch (refrigeration will not be available). Space is limited. Participants must register and have course fee paid in advance by debit or credit card. No walk-ins will be accepted.
