Appleton Medical Center Earns UnitedHealth Cardiac Designation

Hospital Recognized for High Quality, Low Cost Care of Heart Patients

Appleton Medical Center is the recipient of the UnitedHealth Premium specialty center designation for its high quality care of cardiac patients in the areas of cardiothoracic surgery, interventional care, and electrophysiology.

To receive the designation, Appleton Medical Center met extensive quality and outcomes criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice. The criteria incorporate measurements of breadth and depth of care, staff experience, emergency care, quality and outcomes reporting.

Appleton Medical Center received two stars in quality assessment and a higher efficiency ranking in the cost efficiency category.

UnitedHealthcare, one of the nation’s largest health insurers, developed the UnitedHealth Premium specialty center program to give its members information and access to hospitals meeting rigorous quality criteria. The designation is based on detailed information about specialized training, practice capabilities and outcomes and is designed to help members make informed decisions should they need cardiac services care.

AMC is a 160-bed acute care hospital that opened in 1958. In addition to general medical and surgical care, services include the Appleton Heart Institute, a fully staffed emergency department, pediatrics, birthing services, a comprehensive cancer center, and ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus, which integrates orthopedics, sports medicine, outpatient rehabilitation and other services. Appleton Medical Center is an accredited Chest Pain Center by the national Society of Chest Pain Centers.
