At Home in Shawano

Jason Krueger

Jason Krueger is no stranger to Shawano and neighboring communities. He grew up on a small farm in Clintonville and now works as an advanced practice nurse practitioner at ThedaCare Physicians – Shawano. He joins several other ThedaCare providers who grew up in and around Shawano, and who have chosen to continue to call the community home. Their commitment to Shawano supports ThedaCare’s focus on community-based care.

Importantly, his knowledge of the community and its many cultures help Krueger give his patients the best care every day, and help ThedaCare deliver a personal patient experience. “Growing up in this area gives me a better idea of what people’s health needs are,” Krueger said. “Shawano has such a diverse population with a huge mix of cultures, including agricultural, industrial and commuters to urban areas.” Growing up on a farm has also helped him understand the mindset of some of his patients – many of whom have limited resources.

Krueger always knew he wanted to work in a field where he could help others. After working in an emergency room setting for 10 years, he saw a real need for providers in rural areas and decided to go back to school to become a nurse practitioner.

Although the pace of the clinic is different from the emergency room, Krueger is settling in nicely. He enjoys ThedaCare’s strong emphasis on team work, prevention and health maintenance, as opposed to reactionary care.

Krueger earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and received his master’s degree from Concordia University. His professional certifications include advanced cardiac and pediatric advanced life support. He belongs to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Krueger still has family in the Shawano area. He lives on a hobby farm with his family and enjoys fishing, hunting and working with old machinery. He also participates in historical reenactments in his free time.
