Rural Hospitals Honored for Financial Health

New London Medical Center, Riverside Medical Center Earn National Praise

New London Medical Center and Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca were recently named among the top 20 critical access hospitals in the nation for financial stability.

They scored in the top 20 for critical access hospitals based on iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength Index for financial sustainability. The index rates hospital performance based on the percentile rank on a set of balance sheet and income statement financial ratios.

The announcement was made during the National Rural Health Association’s annual convention last month. The National Rural Health Association is a nonprofit organization working to improve the health and well-being of rural Americans and providing leadership on rural health issues. iVantage Health Analytics Inc. is a privately held healthcare business intelligence and technology company and a leading provider of information products serving the healthcare industry.

New London Family Medical Center is a 25-bed, critical access hospital serving New London and nearby communities in Outagamie and Waupaca counties. The hospital, which has been in operation since 1930 and is part of ThedaCare, provides inpatient and outpatient surgery; a 24-hour emergency department; physical, occupational and speech therapies; diagnostic services including laboratory and imaging; pain management; transitional care; and a ThedaCare At Home retail store. The New London Birth Center features a warm and inviting atmosphere along with a process to help families create the ideal birth experience. ThedaCare Physicians-New London and ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus shares the campus of New London Family Medical Center. The medical office integrates space for family physicians, a wide variety of visiting specialists, and new services.

Riverside Medical Center is a 25-bed acute-care, critical access hospital in Waupaca. Services include general medical services, a 24-hour emergency room, general surgery, ambulatory services, laboratory, radiology and diagnostics, occupational health, rehabilitation, a ThedaCare At Home retail store, and other health care services. Riverside Medical Center was founded in 1955 and employs 340 people, making it one of the five largest employers in Waupaca County.
