A Balanced Approach to Eating
When people learn that they have diabetes, they often fear, "I’ll never be able to have cheesecake again!" It’s true that you’ll need to control your intake of sweets and carbohydrates, but ThedaCare’s dietitians can help you live a life of balance.
Our registered dietitians and registered nurses will help you learn to read labels and control portions. Once you understand how your diet affects your blood sugar, you’ll be able to make smarter choices. You’ll know how to eat healthier foods overall, and you’ll be able to identify when it’s okay to enjoy a treat.

Weight Loss and Exercise
Most of us know that it’s important to exercise and eat well, but sometimes that’s easier said than done. How do you find time? And which exercises will get you the best results? Even if you have never exercised in your whole life, ThedaCare’s diabetes educators can help you choose a fitness routine that works for you.
In addition to meeting with diabetes specialists, ThedaCare patients who are diagnosed with prediabetes can participate in our 3-month exercise program through the YMCA.
Sometimes stepping on scales and checking blood sugar readings can affect your self-esteem. If negative emotions, social phobias or depression are preventing your progress, ask your primary physician about getting professional assistance from ThedaCare’s Behavioral Health Specialists. Our staff specializes in understanding the challenges of weight loss and the difficulties in making other important lifestyle changes.
