Our History

Peabody Manor was founded more than 40 years ago by the Appleton Visiting Nurse Association as a residential community for retired men and women. It was named after the late George F. Peabody, a local merchant and philanthropist who made a generous bequest to build the first Peabody Manor near downtown Appleton in 1961. As the needs of the residents changed, Peabody Manor became licensed by the state as a skilled nursing facility (SNF) in 1987 and received Medicare certification in 1995. In 1998, Peabody Manor merged with ThedaCare and transformed from a traditional nursing home look with long, sterile hallways and large nursing stations, to a neighborhood setting that fosters an activity-filled homelike atmosphere.

Our Community

Peabody Manor is an elegant 58 bed licensed skilled nursing facility this is professionally staffed 24 hours a day.  We provide long and short term care as well as rehabilitation services.  Peabody Manor is made up of three neighborhoods:  Pine Creek, Birch Cottage and Cherry Meadows.  Each neighborhood has its own kitchen and dining room, television lounge, sun porch and whirlpool spa. With our bright cheerful atmosphere and neighborhood concept, Peabody Manor embodies the feelings of home.

 Philosophy of Care

At Peabody Manor our priority is to provide residents with the outstanding skilled nursing care they need and the compassion and dignity they want and deserve. And while medications, tests and treatments are important, equally important is providing a nurturing, stimulating environment that encourages choice, growth and socialization. We also take the time to find out what is important to our residents so they can thrive. Children, pets, and plants are part of daily lives and should not end because someone now lives in a nursing facility.

Family Involvement

Family and loved ones help define a "home". We know that a highly skilled, compassionate staff can never take the place of family. That’s why residents and their families are part of the care team at Peabody Manor. We find ways for family to participate in planning and, if they wish, providing care. Our staff will sit down with residents and families to help them understand how we can work together to accomplish each resident’s goals. We encourage families to visit as often and whenever they like.

Dignity and Security

Privacy and dignity are maintained by providing private rooms and baths for our residents. Security and safety are assured by our consistently high staff-to-resident ratios.

Financial Assistance

Responding to our neighbors in need, Peabody Manor provides care to persons of all income levels. We receive funding from a variety of sources, including  private pay, Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, as well as assistance from the George F. Peabody Foundation.

The decision to seek the services of a nursing home is often a difficult one for individuals and their family. There are many questions that need to be answered, but perhaps the most important one is “Will my loved one be treated with as much loving care and dignity here as they would if I could care for them in my home?” Our answer is yes.
