Internal Medicine physicians deal with all kinds of problems that an adult would encounter such as infections, injuries, minor and major illnesses, preventive care, annual exams, etc. Internists are trained in the diagnosis of disease a that may require surgery (such as appendicitis, gall bladder problems, cancer, hernia, endometriosis, ovarian problems, etc.) and work closely with surgeons.
Board Certified means that the doctor has passed the test given by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Internists are specially trained to serve as a primary care physician for an adult, as much as pediatricians are trained to be the primary doctor for children.
Internal Medicine physicians will see patients 18 years of age or older.
