Each patient’s CyberKnife Radiosurgery treatment is individually customized to most effectively fight his or her specific tumor or lesion. Our CyberKnife physicians will work closely with your primary and specialty care physicians to determine the best treatment plan for you.
During your CyberKnife Radiosurgery treatment, your care team will walk you through five main steps.
1. Consultation
One of our specially-trained physicians will discuss your treatment with you in detail prior to your first CyberKnife session.
2. Treatment Set-Up
To help the CyberKnife track the tumor’s location, our team will fit you with a custom-made mask or body mold. In addition, you may require a short outpatient procedure to place small metal markers called “fiducials” that also help CyberKnife direct radiation treatment.
3. Treatment Planning
During treatment set up you’ll undergo a CT scan. Using data from this CT scan, our team will develop your personalized treatment plan.
4. Outpatient Treatment
When you arrive for treatment, we’ll direct you to a procedure room. Here, you will lie comfortably on a table and use the mask or mold that was created for you during your treatment set up. The CyberKnife will move slowly around you, delivering pain-free and precise radiation treatment.
5. Completion of Treatment
Typically, each treatment lasts 30-90 minutes and requires no sedation or anesthesia. Some treatments are completed in a single session, and most are completed within five sessions. You can resume normal activities immediately following treatment.
