New London Family Medical Center and ThedaCare Physicians – New London provide a unique and personalized family experience delivered in a warm and beautiful setting.
The New London Birth Center includes three Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) rooms and numerous amenities for the entire family. A fourth multipurpose room hosts pregnancy planning and prenatal classes, and may be quickly converted to a postpartum room, with a queen size bed. All spacious patient rooms feature:
- Soothing decor
- Relaxing whirlpool bathtubs
- Sleeping accommodations for the father or support person
- Convenient kitchenettes
- TV’s with CD/DVD players.
In addition to the atmosphere, New London Family Medical Center and ThedaCare Physicians–New London provide completely integrated care from the moment a woman discovers she is pregnant. This approach allows each family to create a personalized birth experience to meet their needs.
Each patient completes a birth plan, a written document that specifically details you and your family's wishes during labor and delivery. A nurse or physician will help walk you through this new service. The written plan then becomes part of the permanent medical record and is ready for use by birth center staff.
A birth planner, who is a registered nurse, is a new resource available to expectant mothers throughout the pregnancy. The birth planner:
- Consults during prenatal appointments
- Answers questions and educates families about pregnancy and birth
- Helps complete the written birth plan to prepare for labor and delivery
- Introduces the expectant family to birth center staff
- Serves as a resource for families following the baby’s birth.
Doula support is offered to women and their families. A doula is a trained and certified person who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth.
When a mother is in labor, a doula helps by providing massage, position changes, reassurance and doing whatever it takes to make mom as comfortable as possible. A doula encourages a woman's partner to participate at their own comfort level and facilitates communication between the mother, her partner, and her health care providers.
Studies have shown that when doulas are involved in births:
- Labors are shorter with fewer complications
- The need for a Cesarean section delivery is reduced
- Maternal satisfaction is greatly increased
- Babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.
