As a natural part of life that many women experience, pregnancy is typically covered by insurance providers. However, there may be some specific requirements that need to be met, such as the hospital locations you can give birth at, to get full coverage.
Adding Your Baby to Your Insurance Policy
Only your insurance company can answer questions about adding new family members to your policy. It’s a good idea to contact your insurance company several weeks before your due date to learn about your new baby’s eligibility. Ask if you need to fill out special paperwork, and find out if you need to be aware of any deadlines for submitting forms.
What to Do if You Have Questions
As with many aspects of healthcare, the insurance process can be a little tricky when you’re having a baby. We try to help you understand and manage this process as easily as possible.
If you have any questions about the services your insurance policy covers, call your insurance provider at the number listed on your insurance card.
If you have questions about a bill, call the hospital or clinic where you received services (there should be a phone number on your bill). If you haven’t received a bill yet, call your insurance company to find out when (or if) you’ll be billed.
