Create a Special Bond with Your Baby

Breastfeeding gives you and your baby quiet, close moments together. This special bond not only makes your baby feel comforted and secure, but also offers health benefits for both you and your little one.

Breastfeeding Help and Education

Breastfeeding is not without its challenges. For some women, their babies adapt easily, while others have a harder time getting their baby to "latch," or learn to nurse successfully. ThedaCare’s lactation services and resources provide you with education before you give birth, and offer around-the-clock support after you deliver.

Breastfeeding Classes

Taught by certified lactation specialists, our breastfeeding preparation classes explain the advantages of breastfeeding for both you and your baby, and help you learn about proper positioning and breastfeeding techniques, breast pump options, milk storage, and back-to-work strategies. Learn more about classes

Support After Your Baby Arrives

If you haven’t taken a breastfeeding class, don’t worry—you’ll still have plenty of support. After your baby is born, your nurse will help you with your first attempt at breastfeeding, right in your room. After that first feeding, your nurse will be working with you to offer hands-on support and instruction with breastfeeding, positioning, and little tips on calming and caring for your baby.

A good resource we provide during your discharge is "Your Guide to Breastfeeding", which provides tips and support to successfully breastfeed your child. This helpful booklet is available for all women:

And, once you’re home, please refer to resources listed on your discharge letter. You can also meet with a lactation consultant on an outpatient basis if you need additional, in-person assistance. Whether you receive education before you give birth, after, or both, rest assured that you’ll have the support you need to handle any breastfeeding challenges.

Check out the Mom and Me Class for help with any concerns, questions, or to meet other new moms like you! There are many other classes that may interest you as well.
