Pregnancy and Birth Care

Exceptional Care for You and Your Baby

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, you want to know that you’re in good hands. Our experienced team of doctors, obstetricians, certified midwives, and nurses will help you have the best pregnancy possible, from your first appointment through post-delivery.

Who Will I Receive Care From?

Depending on the type of delivery you’d like to have (which you will outline in your birth plan), you may work with different care providers.

Family Practice Doctor

Specialized in family care, a family practice doctor will guide and educate you throughout your pregnancy and may also care for your infant after birth. Together, you’ll create a birth plan, talk about any concerns, and discuss what to do and who to call when you go into labor.

Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN)

Specialized in pregnancy, delivery, and women’s reproductive health, an OB/GYN will guide and educate you throughout your pregnancy. Together, you’ll create a birth plan, talk about any concerns, and discuss what to do and who to call when you go into labor, so you’ll both be on same page when the time to deliver your baby comes.

All of our nurses have the same certification throughout our healthcare system and are trained in pregnancy care, so you’ll always get the highest level of quality and attention. Your nurse will offer comfort and help you manage the pain of labor, based on your wishes. That might be through massage, breathing techniques, a birthing ball (a large, air-filled ball that can help you find more comfortable positions during labor), or whirlpool tub, as well as medication or an epidural.

Certified Nurse Midwife

Located at our ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca Family Birth Care location, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) have a special education in both nursing and midwifery. This type of care professional provides a more personal, home-like birth experience, but also has the knowledge and expertise to handle any emergency situations. She will work in collaboration with your obstetrician, but will be your primary care provider during labor and delivery.

ThedaCare Medical Center-New London offers doula services. A doula is a trained, certified person who gives continuous physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and just after childbirth. When you’re in labor, a doula helps by providing massage, position changes, reassurance, and doing whatever it takes to make you as comfortable as possible.

Pediatrician (or Family Practice Doctor)

Before your baby is born, it’s a good idea to choose a doctor to care for your little one once he or she enters the world. A newborn provider will see your baby each day you’re in the hospital, and will continue to provide care afterward, too.

Don’t have a doctor yet? Find one now. You can also search by family birth care locations, or call 920-830-6877 or 800-236-2236. Keep in mind that some doctors only deliver at certain locations, so if you have a specific location you’d like to give birth at, it’s best to search for a doctor by location.
