High Risk Pregnancy and Neonatal Care

High Risk Pregnancy

Ready for the Unexpected

Most babies arrive perfectly healthy, but sometimes newborns need extra care in their first days, weeks, or months. Your doctor may explain that you and your baby are at higher risk if:

  • You know or suspect your baby will arrive prematurely
  • You are expecting multiples
  • You are aware that your baby has a serious medical issue

If your pregnancy falls into one of these categories, your doctor may encourage you to choose Family Birth Care at ThedaCare Medical Center-Neenah.

The Best Care, Just Minutes Away

ThedaCare Medical Center-Neenah Family Birth Care has a partnership with the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley. This level 3 nursery handles premature and critically ill infants who may need extra care.

If your baby is at risk, a NICU team will be waiting in the delivery room, ready to make a quick transfer. Your baby will have access to state-of-the art equipment and specialized care, including:

  • Intravenous antibiotics
  • Ventilators and oxygen support
  • Medical assistance with feeding
  • Intervention to maintain body temperature
  • Pediatric surgery

Even if you don’t deliver at ThedaCare Medical Center-Neenah, an ambulance or the ThedaStar helicopter can rapidly transport your baby from any of ThedaCare’s hospitals to the intensive care nursery when specialized services are needed.
