“I don’t take things for granted. Every day is amazing.” - Dona Hammond

My pacemaker? Its name is Sparky.

When my doctor told me I had AFib and recommended a pacemaker, I said, “Let’s just get it done today. I don’t want to wait.” That’s just my nature. I know I can be a tough patient. My son and my husband Jack both tell me to slow down, but it’s not how I was made. That said, all in all I’m a nosy person, and I like to know as much as I can. And the more I understood about my condition, the more questions I asked. I think that’s the one thing I’d tell people: be your own advocate and never be afraid to ask questions. And when I did ask, the doctors and nurses never made me feel like I was taking them away from anything. They always made time for me. I’ve met so many great people along the way. I would recommend all of the doctors to anyone.

Nowadays, I’m not supposed to eat spicy foods, but my problems aren’t so bad. If that’s the worst of it, I’m OK with that. Life is quite the journey.
