The majority of steel erection for the new ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano has been complete for a while now, however; there is a small portion of the addition that could not be started until recently. Steel erection for this area started this week and should be complete by the end of September.

As is customary with steel frame buildings, there will be a steel topping-off ceremony scheduled once the final steel is set in place. Topping off ceremonies are a way of celebrating the milestone of completing steel erection on the project. Leading up to the ceremony, staff from Shawano Medical Center and ThedaCare Physicians, plus visitors to both buildings, will have the opportunity to sign steel plates, which will be welded to the last beam that will be erected.

Keeping with tradition, a spruce tree will be placed at the top of the structure during the ceremony. Once the festivities of raising the final steel into place are complete, crews will turn their focus to getting this final phase of the addition enclosed. The goal is to have the entire addition weather-tight before winter.
