ThedaCare Physicians-Shawano clinic is built at 100 County Road B


Shawano Medical Center and ThedaCare affiliate. ThedaCare commits to building a new medical center in Shawano to replace the aging SMC.

June 2011: Organization created to create overall vision for new hospital


February 2012: Planning begins for new integrated care campus

March 2012: HGA selected as architectural firm for new campus

April 2012: Initial design meetings begin

April 2012: Community Advisory Committee created

April 2012: Boldt Construction selected as general contractor

May 2012: Community members, staff, architects add input into the design

Summer 2012: Professionals, staff, community members meet to plan specific care areas

September 2012: Community participates in planning process at Shawano County Fair


March 2013: Living Well Together symbol selected for project

April 2013: Members of a Community Advisory Committee make suggestion for new building

May 2013: Site plan unveiled!

July 2013: Community groundbreaking for new hospital: The Big Dig

August 2013: Heavy construction equipment arrives on site. Site work begins!


Spring 2014: Surgery Laboratory, Imaging, HIM (Medical Records), Materials Management move to SMC to allow construction to proceed

July 2014: SMC Auxiliary pledges $65,000 to new hospital construction

September 2014: Topping-off ceremony at site marks installation of uppermost structural steel beams; staff and community sign a ceremonial beam

September 2014: ThedaCare and NWTC Announce Collaborative Nursing School On Site at TCMC-Shawano

September 2014: Weekly meetings (involving an average of 52 staff) to plan the September 2015 move begin


January 2015: Hospital site is fully enclosed and crews focus on the building’s interior

April 2015: SMC Foundation announces it surpassed its goal of raising $2.5 million for the Living Well Together capital campaign in support of the new hospital.

June 2015: Project surpasses $1 million threshold for local spending and investment as a result of hospital construction project.

September 2015: Public open house is September 16; hospital opens for patient care on Sunday, September 20
