ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus Staff Members will Provide Assessments
Training for a marathon – and even a half-marathon – can be tough on your body. ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus is offering free injury assessment clinics for two months leading up to the Community First Fox Cities Marathon and has created an online training guide.
The free clinics will run from noon to 1 p.m. on the following Tuesdays at ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus, 820 E. Grant St., Appleton:
- July 24
- Aug. 7
- Aug. 14
- Aug. 21
- Aug. 28
- Sept. 4.
- Sept. 11
- Sept. 18
ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus’ sports medicine team of licensed athletic trainers, physical therapists or sports medicine physicians will assess runners’ injuries and provide recommendations to help them recover and return to running safely. No appointments are necessary.
Erica Kroncke, MD, a sports medicine doctor, said ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus began offering the injury clinic last year because providers were seeing people coming in after the marathon with some serious injuries, which would have been prevented if the problems had been caught earlier.
“Marathons and half-marathons are tough on your body and people wonder if the pain they feel is normal or if it’s something more serious,” she said. “We can evaluate them and come up with some ideas on how to modify training or what, if any, treatment is needed. Our goal is to be a resource for runners and help them to reach their goals.”
ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus also has a free training guide available for people running full- or half-marathons. The guide includes information from ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus staff members on nutrition, stretching, putting together a running program and the recovery process. The guide’s step-by-step information is easy to understand and will help runners throughout the training process, Dr. Kroncke said.
The ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus Training Guide Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Guide is available at ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus and online at www.thedacareorthoplus.org.
