I am not sure where the idea came from for Race for the Light -- but it was brilliant. Run a 5k on an early winter evening and finish up at Menominee Park, which has one of the area's best holiday light displays. For the past 10 years, community members have been doing just that to support Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services Inc.
Held this year on Dec. 1, Race for the Light is a wonderful community activity – it’s a fun-filled run (or walk if you prefer) along a course featuring plenty of Christmas decorations, carolers and musicians. Many participants also get into the holiday spirit by donning festive gear. It’s great to see so many people coming together to exercise.
Race for the Light also supports an important cause. Christine Ann is a non-profit organization that serves individuals and families in both Winnebago and Green Lake counties struggling with the effects of domestic abuse. The center also educates the community about how to identify and fight domestic abuse.
ThedaCare is proud to sponsor such a wonderful event and wants to thank everyone who came out to run or walk the race, decorated their home along the race route or came out to support participants by singing or playing music. It’s truly a community-wide event and is a great addition to Oshkosh’s holiday celebration. We also want to congratulate Christine Ann for coming up with the idea for the run and organizing it the past 10 years. We also salute them for all of the great work they do in the community to fight domestic abuse. The center’s leadership truly makes Race for the Light a success.
