187 People Attended April 27 Event in New London
The 1st Annual Wine & Cheese Tasting to benefit the Rural Health Initiative in Waupaca County was a huge success, raising $7,655 for the program, which brings basic health education and screening to the farm. The April 27 event at Crystal Falls Banquet Hall in New London drew 187 people and featured samplings from 40 kinds of wine and 40 different types of cheese.
The Rural Health Initiative expanded earlier this year into Waupaca County and executive director Rhonda Strebel praised the local advisory group for making the event a success.
“We not only raised money for this great program, but the night was a lot of fun and introduced a lot of people to what the Rural Health Initiative was about and the essential role it can play in helping to make the community healthier,” she said.
As part of the initiative, registered nurse Shirley Yaeger visits Waupaca County farm families in their homes and offers basic health information and screenings. The visits last about 45 minutes and participants get their lab results that same day.
Event sponsors for the 1st Annual Wine & Cheese Tasting to benefit the Rural Health Initiative in Waupaca County included ThedaCare Physicians, Larson Cooperative, First State Bank, Waupaca Area Dairy Promotions, Waupaca Farm Bureau, Premier Community Bank and Jay-Mar.
