Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology Moves into New Suite at Shawano Medical Center
Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology will move from its present location at ThedaCare Physicians in Shawano to a newly remodeled cancer care suite inside Shawano Medical Center on Tues., Nov. 6.
According to Nancy Fugate, Shawano Medical Center’s director of ancillary services, the freshly remodeled space will afford patients more room, more privacy, and added convenience over the previous location. Easier access to lab results, MRIs, pharmacy and volunteer services will help patients move through their chemotherapy treatments comfortably. Patient families will benefit from peaceful waiting areas and convenient access to the hospital cafeteria.
The move is part of ThedaCare’s increased investment in oncology and hematology care in Shawano. Earlier this year, FVHO doubled its available clinic appointments in the community. Kevin Mortara, MD, of FVHO, explained, “By adding Dr. Yao as a second medical oncologist and both of us coming to Shawano two days per week, we were in need of more space. Our new location in the hospital allows us to offer more flexible appointment options and ensures that patients receive much of their cancer care close to home, which is where they want to be.”
According to Dorothy Erdmann, CEO/administrator of Shawano Medical Center, the cancer care clinic is part of a long range plan to bring more services into the community. “Strengthening our partnership with Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology is a step that ensures top quality local care for patients and their families, which is at the heart of our work in Shawano,” she said.
Shawano Medical Center serves 35,000 people in Shawano, Menominee, and surrounding counties. Shawano Medical Center includes a critical-access (25-bed) hospital, Wellness Works, and Sports Medicine.
