    Pain Management

  • About Me:

Helping to care for my grandmother, who suffered from debilitating back pain despite surgeries and high doses of opioids, inspired my interest in pain management. During my anesthesiology residency at the University of Minnesota, and my pain management fellowship at the University of California in Davis, I recognized that there are more effective ways to treat pain than simply increasing opioids.

The body has a natural pain control system that tends to become burned out in patients with chronic pain. I use a combination of passive pain treatments, such as injections and medicines, along with active treatments, such as low-impact movement and even meditation, to help patients activate their body's natural pain control system to safely and effectively manage pain.

Before joining the medical profession, I pursued a wide range of interests that include volunteering for two years in Japan, working part time as a string bassist, and earning bachelor’s degrees in materials science and engineering, and Japanese, as well as a doctorate in bioengineering.
