Vascular / Interventional Cardiology

Depending on your unique condition, an interventional cardiologist can often help patients avoid surgery. These heart experts collaborate with your entire care team from diagnosis to care plan to treatment and beyond. Using the latest in minimally invasive procedures, the steady hands of our interventional cardiologists can repair damaged vessels or other heart structures.

Vascular / Interventional Cardiology Services

Peripheral Vascular and Stroke Screening This screening looks for the three primary causes of stroke and vascular disease:

• Diminished blood flow in your peripheral arteries
• Build-up of plaque in your carotid arteries
• Weakening and enlargement of your abdominal arteries
Because these conditions often have no warning signs, early detection is key in prevention.

Code STEMI for Emergency Heart Care
When you or a loved one is having a medical emergency involving the heart, every moment matters. Our Code STEMI (SegmenT Elevation Myocardial Infarction – the most serious type of heart attack, in which the blood supply to the heart is blocked) emergency process ensures that a diagnosis and treatment are made in 60 minutes or less.

Cardiac Catheterization
Also called a coronary angiogram, this test is one of the most reliable ways to see the anatomy and condition of the heart and its blood vessels. A long, thin tube, called a catheter, is inserted into a blood vessel in your arm or leg, and then guided to your heart with the help of a special x-ray machine. A dye is injected into the catheter, which allows your valves, coronary arteries, and heart chambers to be captured by x-ray video. You will be sedated during this procedure.

Angioplasty and Stents
Angioplasty opens up your blocked artery by using a special catheter with a balloon tip, which is inflated to stretch on your artery wall and flatten any fatty deposits (known as "plaque"). Then, a small tube, called a stent, is inserted and permanently placed in your artery to keep it open. You’ll be sedated during this procedure.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
We are the first heart program in the Fox Valley to offer this option to treat the underlying cause of aortic valve disease, not just the symptoms. The minimally invasive surgery repairs a person’s diseased aortic valve without removing the old damaged valve. It wedges a replacement valve into the aortic valve’s place. The replacement valve is delivered via a catheter, similar to the placement of a stent.
