ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton Awarded on Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2024 List

Hospital Recognized Three Consecutive Years

ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton has been awarded on Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Hospitals 2024. Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, presented this award.

“We are proud to earn this recognition at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton,” said Dale Gisi, senior vice president, ThedaCare Central Region. “Our team members are advancing population health, which aims to understand the whole person to recognize each person’s unique needs. Quality metrics, patient experience and outcomes, such as the ones measured through Newsweek and Statista, help ThedaCare monitor progress, allowing teams to continue preparing and responding to the needs of the communities we serve.”

Since 1958, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton has provided top quality health care at an affordable cost. Today, the regional medical center has 1,200 employees, more than 750 providers, nearly 150 acute care beds and a 24/7 Emergency Department. A wide range of clinical and support services are available, including: Orthopedic, Cardiovascular, Cancer Care, General Surgery, Family Birth and more.

The award was announced on February 28, 2024, and can be viewed on Newsweek’s website. This is the third year that ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton has been included in the list.

Newsweek and Statista developed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Major changes were made in this year’s edition. A global board of experts supported the continuous development of the methodology.

Four data sources were used for the evaluation, including:

  • Recommendations from Medical Experts: Online survey among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals, and hospital managers in 30 countries
  • Results from Patient Surveys: Survey of patient satisfaction with hospitalization
  • Hospital Quality Metrics: Medical indicators e.g., data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety, and waiting times.
  • PROMs Implementation Survey: Optional online survey on the implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals.

Based on the above four pillars and their respective weights, a final source was calculated for each hospital.

“Earning a place on Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Hospitals 2024 is an example of our dedication to patients and families, who are at the center of all we do,” Gisi said. “These recognitions demonstrate our commitment to improving the health and well-being of our communities by empowering each person to live their best life, through coordinated and specialized care. Our exceptional staff, physicians and clinicians make this possible.” The World’s Best Hospitals 2024 ranking lists the best hospitals in 30 countries: USA, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, United Kingdom, South Korea, Brazil, India, Spain, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Colombia, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Israel, Singapore. The countries were selected based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living/life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability.
