Theda Clark Inpatient Rehab Unit Opens

New Area Featured Larger Patient Rooms with More Amenities

Theda Clark Medical Center opened its newly renovated inpatient rehab unit this week, after having been under construction since December.

The unit moved from the sixth to the first floor of Theda Clark. It is designed for patient and staff safety and efficiency, said Sara Kloes, manager of the rehab unit. Patient rooms are 40 percent larger with a shower in each bathroom, a love seat that doubles as a cot for family overnight stays, a refrigerator and additional storage for personal belongings. These improvements decrease distance traveled for patients and staff, increase patient and family comfort and privacy, and promote patient and staff safety, Kloes added.

Former and current customers gave feedback on the unit during the initial and ongoing planning phases of the unit design in order to make the best possible changes. It includes:

    Patient rooms stocked with supplies
    Overhead ceiling lift devices
    Therapeutic lighting
Small staff work stations built strategically throughout the unit
    Two therapy gyms
A private speech therapy treatment area
A family room in close proximity to the patient dining room

“My favorite aspect of the new unit is the goal of providing a home-like environment, because our average patient length of stay is two weeks,” Kloes said. “We are hoping to increase our visibility to the public with our move and first floor location, as we know that many community members are not aware of the unit’s existence and the valuable services we offer.”
